Dell 24″ UltraSharp U2412M, IPS, LED -monitor

Hyvää ja lämpöistä heinäkuun alkua!

Tänään olisi vuorossa mulkaisu monitorista. Vanha palvelija Samsung 19″ vanhalla kuvasuhteella alkoi kevään mittaan pitämään kiinni ollessaan merkillistä vinkunaa. Tämä alkoi lopulta huolestuttamaan siinä määrin, että oli aika vaihtaa uuteen. Erinäisten vaiheiden ja vertailujen jälkeen päädyin Dellin U2412M -malliseen 24″ monitoriin jossa resoluutio on 1920×1200 eli pystypisteitä on hieman enemmän kuin normaalissa HD-kuvassa. Onneksi vanha palvelija sai myös uuden kodin (http://www.sldata.fi), jossa varmasti saa olla hyödyksi loppuun asti.

Monitori oli pakattu normaaliin pahvilaatikkoon, jossa monitori oli upotettu styroksiin. Lisähärveleille, kuten jalusta, oli styroksiin tehty omat ”kuopat” joista niitä sai sitten revellä pois. Pakkaus oli kevyt ja helppo kantaa sivuissa olevista kantoaukoista. Johdot ja muut lisukkeet piti tosiaan kaivaa ensin koloistaan ennenkuin monitoria pystyi nostamaan pois pahvilaatikosta. Monitori nousikin sitten hitaasti pois, koska käytetyn kantoaukon pahviosa taittui styroksin sisään niin että jumitti monitorin laatikkoon.

Monitorissa on VGA, DVI ja DisplayPort ja USB sisäänmenot. Mukana tuli VGA ja DVI kaapelit. USB johto oli myöskin mukana ja se tarvitaan välikappaleeksi, jos haluaa käyttöön kyljessä olevat USB paikat.

Monitori on siis musta kuten kuvasta näkyy. Jalustaa voi säätää sekä korkeussuunnassa että kallistusta eteen ja sivulle (pivot). Säädöt olivat mielestäni oikein kattavat ja sen saikin niiden takia sijoitettua joko ”monttuun” tai sitten laskettua niin alas, että sitä pystyy katsomaan myös samalta tasolta. Vasemmassa reunassa on 2 USB paikkaa, oikeassa laidassa etureunassa on säädinnappulat ja alimmaisena virtakytkin.

Säädinnappuloissa on hieman lelumainen tuntuma ja toivonkin etteivät ne mene helposti rikki. Painettaessa pitää melkein ottaa osalla sormia taustasta kiinni, että painiketta saa painettua tarpeeksi. Jalusta on tukevan oloinen eikä heilu kuten joitakin näyttöjä on haukuttu.

Kuva on värikäs ja kirkas. Itse asiassa jopa niin kirkas, että vakioasetuksilta kirkkautta joutui laskemaan mutta tämä taitaa olla aika vakio muissakin. Väreissä ei ole näkyviä (tavalliselle tallaajalle) vääristymiä ja mielestäni myöskin musta oli mustaa eikä harmaata. Valovuodosta en osaa sanoa, koska huone jossa tuota käytetään on aina valaistu tai valoisa.

Nopeus tässä näytössä on 8ms (GtG) joka mielletään ehkä liian hitaaksi pelikäyttöön. Ainakin mainosten mukaan pitäisi olla 5 tai alle. Pelitesti ja elokuvatesti kuitenkin osoitti, ettei mitään haamukuvia tai pikselöitymistä ilmennyt. Näin ollen sopii oikein hyvin myös pelikäyttöön.

Loppukommenttina voin sanoa, että rahat eivät menneet hukkaan. En yhtään ihmettele, että Tietokone-lehti (http://www.tietokone.fi) valitsi tämän 01/2012 numerossaan toimituksen valinnaksi. Jos siis pöydällesi mahtuu 56cm leveä ja 36cm korkea näyttö ja olet uuden tarpeessa niin vilkaisehan tätä vaihtoehtoa.

Today we take a quick peek at a monitor. My old servant was a 19″ LCD monitor with a maximum resolution of 1280×1024. During the last spring it started to make a whimpering sound when it was turned off. After a while it started to worry me enough for me to start planning for the purchase of a new monitor. After some time and research I ended up ordering Dell 24″ UltraSharp U2412M monitor with a resolution of 1920×1200. A marvellous thing was that it had even more vertical points than in a HD picture. Luckily my old and trustworthy servant also found a new home (http://www.sldata.fi) and can be of use there for the rest of it’s lifetime.

The monitor was packed in a normal cardboard box where it was sunked in styrofoam. All the extras like the stand had theird own ”holes” made in the styrofoam and there were some digging up to do to get them out. Package was light and the carrying was easy since it had carrying holes on the sides. When removing the monitor from the package, you had to dig cords and the rest of the ”extras” up from their holes before there was a chance to lift the monitor up. Monitor rose slowly because I soon realized that part of the cardboard had turned inside from the carrying holes and stuck on the styrofoam.

The monitor has VGA, DVI, DisplayPort and USB inputs. There were cords for VGA and DVI for connecting the monitor. There was also a USB cord which enables the two USB ports on the side of the monitor.

Monitor is black as you can see in the picture in the Finnish version of this text. That was good since also my mouse and keyboard are black (old monitor was grey so someone could say it didn’t fit). The stand is adjustable…up ’n down, forwards ’n backwards and around (pivot). Adjustment options were so good that most of the people can find a suitable setting according to their favour and also taking ergonomics into concern. USB connectors are on the left side of the monitor, right side has buttons for picture settings and the power button.

Buttons were a little toyish and I hope they won’t break down. While pushing the button, you sometimes have to give support with other fingers/hand from the back side in order to be able to push the button deep enough. The stand feels good and gives a sturdy feeling unlike in many other monitors.

The picture is colorful and bright. Actually it was even a bit too bright with default settings so I had to darken it up a bit. I guess it’s something you need to do almost in any monitor. There are no visible color faults (for a non-fanatic) and black seemed black and not grey. I can’t say anything about the light leakage because I don’t work in dark conditions. The speed in the monitor is said to be 8ms (GtG) which often seems too slow for gaming use. At least I see in many commercials that it should be 1-5ms. After testing with two games and a movie, it seemed that there’s no sign of lagging or pixelation even in fast scenes so I can say this one suites also for gaming just fine.

For a conclusion I can say that money was not wasted on this purchase. Tietokone magazine (http://www.tietokone.fi) also ranked this as editor’s choice in their 01/2012 edition. So if a monitor 56cm wide and a height of 36cm fits on your table and you need a new one, take a look at this one.
