Mikä on musta, kohoaa edessäsi kuin korkea muuri ja huutaa äänellä joka saisi kuolleetkin heräämään? Se on Daf XF 105.460 rekkaveturi. Ne eivät tietenkään aina ole mustia, mutta olimme iloisia kun saimme juuri tämän hienon laitoksen testiin Daf:ilta. Auto on rekkaveturiksi hienosti muotoiltu muhkeine katteineen. XF malli tarkoittaa kaikkein suurikokoisinta koria. Tämä tarkoittaa, että tilaa on yllinkyllin ja se on tarkoitettu nimenomaan pitkille matkoille. Koeajon suoritti Pikamulkauksen Marko U ja minä toimin kameramiehenä (tosin pitihän se lopussa itsekin kokeilla).

Totutusta poiketen aloitammekin ensin sisätiloista.

 

 

Sänkyjä on sisällä kaksi. Ala ja yläpeti. Yläkuvassa näemme tuon yläpedin, joka taittuu pois tieltä kun sitä ei tarvita. Pidike, joka sängyn pitää yläasennossa oli varsin tukeva tanko ja hihnat. Sänkyä oli kevyt käyttää eikä tarvitse pelätä sängyn tippuvan päähän.

 

Alasänky oli sitten tutulla paikallaan penkkien takana. Patjat olivat sekä ylhäällä että alhaalla erinomaisen laadukkaan tuntuisia. Aluksi luulin alapatjaa jopa joustinpatjaksi. Näissä sängyissä kyllä kelpaa oikaista kroppaa pitkän ajoruljanssin päätteeksi. Ettei vaan olisi niin mukavia, ettei halua enää seuraavana päivänä jatkaakkaan. Eipä taida olla sitä ongelmaa, sen verran hieno peli on kyseessä myöskin ratissa ollessa.

Hytti oli sen verran korkea, että siellä mahtui hyvin seisomaan. Etupuolella oli ylhäällä kolme suljettavaa lokeroa ja yksi taskumallinen. Säilytystilaa tässä vehkeessä on runsaasti.

Alapedin alla on kaksi vedettävää laatikkoa. Laatikot tulevat esiin kevyesti ja äänettömästi. Toisessa on vakiona mm. ensiapulaukku ja syvyytensä puolesta sinne mahtuu paljon tavaraa. Toisesta laatikosta (lähempänä kuljettajaa) löytyy sitten varsin sopivan kokoinen jääkaappi. Jääkaapin etuosassa on kaksi pullopaikkaa ja muut osat on lokeroita elintarvikkeille. Myös kuljettajan penkin oikealta puolelta löytyy paikka juomapullolle.

Ohjaamo on selkeä. Säätimiä ja nappeja on sopivasti. Keskikonsolin päällä on laaja liukusuojattu taso, jossa on tilaa papereille tai tulostimelle. Nappulat ja katkaisimet ovat sopivasti käden ulottuvilla. Apukuljettajan puoleisen oven lukon avausnappi on ehkä hieman turhan etäällä kuljettajasta.

Mittarit ovat hyvin selkeät. Ajotietokoneen näyttö on mittariston keskellä.

Ajotietokoneen näyttöä ohjataan tatilla, joka on hyvin kuljettajan ulottuvilla. Tatti on suoraan käsijarrun vapauttimen alapuolella.
Sitten päästäänkin ulkokuviin.

Daf XF on vaikuttavan kokoinen ja näköinen ulkoapäin. Varsinkin tämä musta versio näytti todella komealta kaikkine katteineen. Valoja on runsaasti. Alhaalla on sumuvalot, keskellä hieman Xenoneilta vaikuttavat ajovalot ja ylhäällä vielä melko suurikokoiset lisävalot. Voisin veikata, että tämä auto on pitkät valot päällä melkoinen joulukuusi.

Katolta löytyy muutakin, nimittäin neljä ”alppitorvea”. Kuljettajan vasemmalla puolella, pään yläpuolella on naru, jota vetämällä näihin kaikkiin torviin puhalletaan paineilmaa. Tuo ääni on sitten sitä luokkaa, että seisoessani auton etupuolella kuvaamassa videota, säikähdin aivan tosissani vaikka varsin hyvin tiesin koska torvia soitetaan.

Muuta huomionarvoista etupäässä on kolme pyyhkijää.

Tässä sivuprofiilikuvassa voimme verrata auton kokoa vieressä seisovaan testikuljettajaan eli Marko U:hun. Auto on todella korkea.

Tässä takaviistokuvassa näkyy tuuliohjaimet ja teli. Tässä ei sinänsä ole mitään ihmeellistä.

Letkuille ja johdoille on omat säilytyspaikkansa. Hieman ehkä alempana kuin osassa kilpailevia merkkejä, mutta hyvät paikat.

Tässä viimeisessä kuvassa näkyy ovi ja askelmat. Testikuljettaja kertokoon siitä enemmän.

 Autohan oli tosi komea ulkokuoreltaan, väri loistavat ja mukavan lisän antopi kaikki valosysteemit ja äänimerkit.

• Ratti kiinnitti oitis huomiota. Sopivan kokoinen ja siitä sai tukevan otteen, miinuksena tarpeettoman liukas pinta. Pikkuusen pehmennystä niin olis ollu melkein täydellinen.
• Toinen ja ehkä isoin miinus tulee vaihteistosta. Systeeminä tuttu kolmilovinen oudossa järjestyksessä. Alkuus melko hakemista löytää oikeat vaihteet ja pikkusen rouhimalla ne päälle meni. Aikaa myöten tuota ei sitten enään huomaakkaan.
• Kuljettajan istuin simppeli käyttää. Ajoasento löytyi helposti mukaan lukien ratin melko laaja liikkuvuus auttoi asiaa. Hiukan turhan pehmeä istuttava röykkyisellä baanalla. Vois kuvitella oikein kuoppaisella tiellä jalkojen hakevan polkimia aina välillä. Sitä ongelmaa ei nyt tolla ajamisella tullut
• Hytti oli hieno. Tarpeeksi lokeroita tavaroiden lopulliseen hukkaamiseen. Jääkaappi löyty. Plussaa siitä. Korkeutta hytissä riittävästi ja sängyssä kelpaa isommankin miehen oikoa koipiaan.
• Mittaristo oli selkeä. Ajotietokone oli luokkaa jotain ihan perusmalli. Itse kaipasin siitä hiukan enemmän infoa, esim. paljonko tankissa on vielä tavaraa.
• Ajettavuus huippuluokkaa, ainakin ilman kärryä. Kokoon nähden melko pienet etupyörät teki autosta näppärän.
• Peilit olisi ehkä saanut olla hiuka isommat, mutta neljä sivupeiliä ja yksi keulapeili on mainio yhdistelmä. Jäin kaipaamaan tehokkaampaa peilien lämmitystä. Ei teho riittänyt kuivaamaan edes tossa pikkusateessa.
• Autosta ulostaumisessa kiinnitti huomioo astinlautojen, varsinkin ylimmän, hankala sijoitus. Hiukan liian sisään tungettu. Samaten olisi saanut olla vielä karheammat. Rekkaukot kun ei nyt aina jaksa, ehdi, viitti kenkiä kopistella, niin astimet kerää lunta ja jäätä, jolloin niiden pinta tullee tosi liukkaaksi.
• Kojelaudasta sen verran vielä, että kaikki tarpeelliset naviskat oli hyvin käden ulottuvilla ja vähemmän tärkeät oli sijoiteltu vähän kauemmaksi.
• Kokonaisuuten kelpo peli. Koneessa potkua riittävästi ja ulkonäkö hieno. Kelpaisi mulle toimistoksi pitkillä matkolla.

What is black, tower before you like a high wall and screams at you with a voice capable of rising the dead? It is the Daf XF 105.460 truck. Naturally they are not always black but we were extremely happy that we got this truck for a test from Daf. Truck was designed beautifully with covers and spoilers. XF model means that it’s the biggest DAF out there. This means that you really have a lot of space and it’s meant for the longer drives. Our test driver was Marko U and I was acting as a photographer and cameraman for the video (I have to admit though that I just had to test it a little myself too).
Unlike usual, we start with the interior.

 

There’s two beds inside, upper and lower bed. On the picture above we see the upper bed, which turns away when it’s not needed. The rod keeping the bed in the up position was sturdy and the strap looked strong. It was easy to operate the bed and you don’t need to be afraid of it dropping and hitting your head.

 

The lower bed was in it’s usual position behind the seats. The mattresses felt like good quality in both beds. I actually thought the lower mattress to be a spring mattress at first. These beds are really confortable looking and invites you to straighten your legs after a long drive. I wonder if they are so confortable that you don’t want to continue on the next morning anymore. Nah, it’s so nice to be behind the wheel as well.

The cockpit was so high you were able to stand inside. There were three closable lockers on the front and one pocket. There is quite a lot of storage space in this one.

Under the lower bed there is two drawers. They come out easily and silently. The other drawer has an emergency bag and it’s so deep that you can put a lot of things inside. The other drawer, closer to the driver turns out to be a refrigerator. In the front of the refrigerator there is two places for bottles. The rest is for foodstuff. There is another place for a bottle on the right side of the drivers seat.

The cockpit is very clear and simple. There is a suitable amount of switches and buttons. On top of the middle console, there is a space with rubber in it to prevent sliding. That is a good spot for a printer or for papers. All the switches and buttons are within reach except the button that unlocks the passenger door. That is a little too far from the driver.

The meters are clear. The screen for the driving computer is in the middle of the meters.

You control the the computer with a knob that’s close to driver. The knob is directly under the handbrake release.
Now we get to the pictures taken from outside

The size of the DAF XF is really impressive and looks very good. Especially this black version looked very beautiful. There’s quite a lot of lights. Fog-lights at the bottom, a Xenon-like lights in the middle and big extra-lights on the top. I’m pretty sure this looks like a Christmas tree with all it’s lights on.

 

There is more on the top of the cockpit, four alpenhorns. There is a string on the left side of the drivers head and if you pull it, pressured air is pushed in to all of these horns. That will produce a noice which scared the shit out of me even when I knew when it was coming.

 

Another thing worth noticing is the three windshield wipers.

The truck is really tall. Just compare it to the driver standing next to it.

All the cords and hoses have their own storage place. It’s maybe at a little lower than in some other marks, but the places are good nevertheless.

 

On this last picture we can see the door and the steps. I let our test driver tell you more about them.

The truck was really good looking outside. Spectacular color and lights and horns gave a nice touch.

 

• The steering wheel got my attention at once. It was the perfect size and gave a good grip. A little minus was that it’s a bit slippery. A little softness and it would be almost perfect.
• Another minus, maybe biggest one is the gearbox. A common 3 notched gear system with a different order. It was pretty hard at first to find the right gears and had a bit of crunch when changing. After a while you got used to it and it didn’t matter anymore.
• Driver’s seat was easy to operate. A good position was found quickly and the wide mobility on the steering wheel was helpful The seat was a bit too soft (suspension) on the bumpy road. I’d imagine you might have a hard time keeping your feet on the pedals. We didn’t have that problem on our test run though.
• The cockpit was nice. There was enought storage space to lose your things forever. There was a refrigerator which was a big plus. The hight of the cockpit was enough and even a tall man is able to straighten his legs on the beds.
• The meters were clear. Driving computer was basic model and I would have liked a little more information. Like how much fuel there is.
• Driving was top of the line at least without a trailer. The rather small front wheels (compared to the size of the truck) made it easy to handle.
• Mirrors could have been a bit larger, but the combination of 4 side mirrors and one front mirror was brilliant. I was hoping a bit more powerful heating on the mirrors though because it wasn’t enought to dry them even in this light rain.
• When stepping out of the truck I noticed the rather troublesome placing of the steps, especially the top step. It’s a bit too much inside. The steps could also have been a bit more rough. It’s a known fact that truck drivers don’t necessary clean their boots before stepping in and the steps gather snow and ice and make them very slippery.
• One more thing about the dashboard. All the necessary buttons and switches were within reach and the less important ones were further away.
• As a conclusion, a very nice ride. It had enough power and looked very nice. I’d definitely take it as my office for the longer trips.
