Can-Am Spyder
Hei taas! Tällä kertaa on vuorossa mulkaus aivan uudesta kategoriasta. Mitä voi tehdä jos ei ole moottoripyöräkorttia ja haluaisi silti nauttia moottoripyörän vapauden tunteesta ja tehosta? EI, silloin ei oteta kaverin pyörää ja lähdetä rälläämään! Silloin voi tehdä kuten me teimme:

Itse laitteeseen voi tutustua vaikka täältä http://can-am.brpscandinavia.com/fi/ajoneuvot/spyder.html tai valmistajan sivujen http://www.can-am.brp.com/ kautta. Kyse on siis kolmipyörästä ja lainsäädäntö ei lue sitä moottoripyöräksi, joten tätä saa ajaa henkilöautokortilla.
Spyder näyttää siis suunnilleen siltä kun olisi otettu moottorikelkka ja laitettu siihen pyörät. Todellisuudessa eroa on hieman enemmän mutta samankaltaisuus on kuitenkin havaittavissa ja valmistaahan sama yritys myös Ski-doo ja Lynx moottorikelkkoja.
Vaan mennäänpä sitten vihdoinkin itse testiin. Spyder haettiin siis kauniina torstaisena iltana (ennustukset piti kerrankin paikkansa eikä satanut) Promorentin toimipisteestä ja parin sammutuskerran (Spyderissä on tosi pitkä ykkösvaihde) jälkeen päästiin vihdoin liikkeelle. Ajo oli hetken aikaa varovaista kun piti opetella kääntyminen ym. perusjutut. Spyder ei kallistu yhtään (vuokraajan mukaan ei saa kaatumaan edes yrittämällä) mutta käytännössä kuljettaja joutuu kallistelemaan kurveissa. Hallintalaitteet oli periaatteessa kuten moottoripyörässä, ainoastaan etujarrua ei ollut vaan jalkajarru jarruttaa kaikkia kolmea pyörää. Noh, oli siinä myös pakki jota ei moottoripyöristä löydy. Se on kuitenkin tässä vehkeessä ihan välttämätön, koska työntäminen jaloilla olisi aivan liian hankalaa.
Vaan palataampa taas siihen ajamiseen. Hyvin äkkiä ajetulla reitillemme osui liittyminen Oulun moottoritielle. Kiihdytyskaistalla tietysti täytyy kiihdyttää päästäkseen samaan vauhtiin muiden kulkuvälineiden kanssa. Ei hyvän tähden! Tämähän lähtee kuin raketti! Siinä varmaan ensitunnelmat kun kahvoista sai pidellä kiinni tosissaan. Onneksi nopeus on mittarin lisäksi ilmaistu suurella fontilla keskellä digitaalinäyttöä, jotta nopeus ei kasvaisi liian suureksi. Teille moottoripyöräilijöille (ainakin isommilla ajaville) tuo on toki ihan tuttua, mutta henkilöauton ratista tuohon hypättäessä Spyder tuntuu raketilta jossa kahvaa kunnolla vääntämällä tapahtuu varmasti jonkinasteinen afterburner efekti. Onneksi ohjaus on hyvin tarkka ja nopea (ohjaus on sähköavusteinen) ja näin moottoritiellä kiidettiin autojen seassa. Pysähdyimme aika pian huoltoasemalle purkamaan ensijännitystä ja odottelemaan ajokaveria. Tässä kohtaa saikin sitten ensimmäisen kerran selitellä muille ihmisille laitteesta ja sen ominaisuuksista. Onneksi korvat oli auki kun vuokraaja kertoi niistä ja olimpa sentään tehnyt kotiläksyni ennen testiä ja tutustunut peliin netissä. Näitä ei kauhean paljon liikenteessä näy, joten kerää katseita ja kyselijöitä.
Matkamme jatkui sitten viimein hieman pienempiä asfalttiteitä (tätä ei suositella sorateille) johon tämä onkin aivan omiaan. Jyrkätkin mutkat menivät sulavasti ja vaivattomasti eivätkä kuopatkaan heiluttaneet Spyderia. Hieman unta väliin ja seuraavana päivänä lisää kauniita maisemia ja mutkaisia asfalttiteitä. Yhteensä testiajolle tuli hieman yli 300km vuorokauden aikana.
Tässä plussia ja miinuksia:

+ Tehokas ja nopea
+ hauska ja uniikki (ei tule juuri vastaan samanlaisia)
– Ykkösvaihde on välitykseltään liian pitkä (esim. mateluvauhti on todella nykivää)
Can-Am Spyder on suunnattoman hauska ajaa ja sillä pääsee kokeilemaan moottoripyöräilyn vapautta (no se kallistelu puuttuu kyllä). Jos löydätte läheltänne paikan, josta laitteen voi vuokrata niin suosittelen kokeilemaan itse. Varokaa kuitenkin ettette jää koukkuun. Katsotaan nyt pystynkö itse vastustamaan kiusausta.

Hi again! This time we took a peek from a totally new category. What can you do if you don’t have a licence to drive a motorcycle and you still want to enjoy the freedom and power of it? NO, you don’t take your friends motorcycle and go crazy. What you can do is what we did:

You can get to know this device at the manufacturers site http://www.can-am.brp.com/. It’s a three-wheel ATV and because the law doens’t consider it as an motorcycle, you can drive it with a car licence. Here’s a video about it.
The Spyder looks like a snowmobile with wheels attached. In reality there’s a bit more difference but the similarities are showing clearly and you should also know that the same manufacturer also makes Ski-doo and Lynx snowmobiles.
But lets go to the test itself. We went to get the Spyder on a beautiful summer evening (forecast was correct this time and it didn’t rain) from Promorents premises and after killing it twice (it has a very long 1st gear) we were ready to go. Driving was very carefull at the beginning when these was a lot of learning about turning and other basic things. Spyder doesn’t lean at all (Rental said that it doesn’t fall even when tried) but in reality it’s the driver leaning from side to side on the curves. Handling was like in a motorcycle except this doesn’t have a separate front-brake handle. There’s only one break used by foot and it brakes all three wheels at once. Also this had a reverse gear which was very usefull since you really don’t want to try to push it with your feet.
And then back to the driving. Suddenly we came down to a motorway entry. The purpose is naturally to accelerate to the same speed as the other vehicle go on the motorway. Oh shhhiiiiiiiii****! This bloody thing goes like a rocket! That was pretty much how I felt during that acceleration while squeezing the handles. Luckyly there’s quite a big digital indicator showing your current speed. Otherwise you will most likely overspeed veeery quickly. For you people that are used to driving big ’n powerfull motorcycles, these might not be anything new about that power. But when you come from a normal car, this feels like a rocket with an afterburner in the back. The steering is very sharp and fast and that it a good thing. Keeps the Spyder on the road and not throw you somewhere where you’d rather be in a different situation. We stopped to a gas station after a while to easen up the tension and excitement and also to way one more driver. Then came the unsuspected audience with a lot of questions. I had my homework done and was explaining the specifications like a pro. You don’t really see these Can-Am Spyders a lot in the traffic so it gets noticed very easily.
Our journey continued with smaller tarmac roads with tighter bends (gravel was not suggested). Tight bends and curves went smoothly and effortless and even bumps on the road didn’t affect the Spyder. Then it was time to get some sleep before the longer trip next day. Second day was very beautiful summer day with sunshine and nice scenery with lakes and rivers. In total we drove over 300km before taking Spyder back.
The pros and cons:
+ Steady driving
+ Powerfull and fast
+ Fun and unique
– 1st gear was too long, which made especially slow driving kind of jerky
Can-Am Spyder is extremely fun to drive and you can experince the feeling of a motorcycle ride (without the leaning). So if you have the possibitily to rent one near you, take a chance and give it a go. Please be aware though, you can get hooked on it. Let’s see how long I can resist the temptation.
