Mini RC helikopteri

Hei.

Package

Yllä olevassa kuvassa onkin sitten osat saatu poistettua paketista. Pussissa on keltainen USB laturi, jolla kopterin saa ladattua tietokoneella. Toinen latausvaihtoehto on ohjaimen sisällä oleva johto, jolla voi käyttää ohjaimen kuutta AA-paristoa lataamiseen. Latausaika kopterille on noin 40 minuuttia ja sillä saa ruhtinaalliset 5-6 minuuttia lentoaikaa.

Syma S107

Mini RC helicopter

Hi.

Reviews that have been about transportation equipments over here at Pikamulkaus blog have mostly been about autos. Most likely it’s not going to change. We ordered a package some time ago from Amazon.com via MyUs.com and received two helicopters, which we are taking under our stare. Because we didn’t manage to get  an Apache or an EuroCopter for a review at this point (can anyone help with that?) we have to settle for a RC copter. You need to start from somewhere and usually it’s from the bottom…or in this case from the smallest.

The first copter we’re taking a quick glance at is a mini RC helicopter called Syma S107.

Package

After removing the cardboard cover from the box, the helicopter and transmitter are revealed. Both of them are attached with metal strings so that they will stay there.

Package contents

All the parts have been taken out in the picture above. There is a USB-cord in the plastic bag for charging the helicopter with your computer. Another way to charge it up is with a cord inside the transmitter. That one uses the 6 AA-batteries for charging. Charging time for the Syma S107 is about 40 minutes and you’ll get a marvelous flying time of around 5-6 minutes.

Syma S107

Here is a close-up picture of the chopper. Syma S107 helicopter is a metal-structured but the rotors and the front mask are plastic. The rear rotor is used for getting forwards and backwards (lifts or lowers the back end). The two main rotors are used for lifting up and lowering down and also for turning. It is printed on the package that the recommended age for using this is 14+ which might seem a bit high for a ”toy” for some. I understood pretty fast why it’s so high after I tried it the first time. This helicopter is actually pretty fast with its moves and you can do some serious damage if improperly used inside.

As an example I could tell you about my first flight (yes, I had no previous experience on any RC helicopters). After I had learned lifting up properly, I started flying around the room. The helicopter took some wind from somewhere, might have been it’s own created which bumped from a wall, and shot directly to a ceiling and straight down like a rock. Fortunately it didn’t hit me because those plastic rotor are like knives when they whirl like they do. I accidentally tested how durable this Syma S107 helicopter really is. It really is, there wasn’t any damage apart from a small scratch on the tip of a rotor and that didn’t have any affect on flying.

At this point I give you some specifics:

  • Lenght: 220mm
  • Width: 38mm
  • Hight: 98mm
  • Weight 34g
  • Main rotor lenght: 190mm
  • Rear rotor length: 30mm
  • Using distance: 10m

Syma S107 helicopter is not radio controlled but the link between the transmitter and the helicopter is by infra-red. I’ve read somewhere that infra-red is not working very well outside, at least in sunlight. This helicopter is clearly meant for inside use. It doesn’t like any sudden change in the air pressure and will swing in a smallest breeze which might appear from an AC for example. In an open space like (living room) it will fly steadily after a short training. Hallways and other tighter places and more difficult because the airflow coming from it’s own rotor spin is reflecting back from walls and disturbs the flight.

During the purchase of this helicopter from Amazon.com the prize was $26.97. Amazon is not shipping them to Finland (or anywhere else than USA actually). With a quick googling I didn’t find any Finnish stores either which would sell it. Then again I found some other online stores that do send them internationally too.

My serious intention was to make a complete video review for you to watch as well, but because of several reasons you need to settle for only a flight video. Maybe next time.

I really think this is a splendid helicopter for a beginner. It can be a good one for a more experienced too and they can use it indoors. If you’re looking for a greater challenge, try setting up some missions like landing in a platform etc. Syma S107 seems to sustain some damage too pretty well and you don’t need to run for spare parts for it immediately. I’m more than happy to fly with this and train before I have the guts to take the bigger Syma helicopter for a fly.

  1. Minulla on vastaava kikotin, mutta punaisilla muoveilla. Kestää kyllä yllättävän kovia alastuloja, ja täällä vähemmän tuulisessa sisämaassa pystyy lennättämään pihallakin ja kiusaamaan naapuruston varpushaukkaa. Tosin aurinkoisena päivänä hukkaa kyllä ikävän helposti ohjaussignaalin.
